KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 14 – A group of party leaders who had lost their senior position last month have announced that the new movement of PAS are officially progressives, ahead of the formation of a new splinter Islamic movement. The announcement of “New Hope Movement” or known as “Gerakan Harapan Baru” (GHB) in Bahasa Malaysia was made by its chairman, Mohamad Sabu, a former PAS deputy president.
A group of 18 Pas leaders, who dubbed themselves “G18”, would form the splinter group’s core and join together with DAP and PKR to forge a new coalition after the end of Pakatan Rakyat (PR). PR was declared dead by DAP and PKR after the former and PAS ended relations with DAP last month.
“The first leg of the road shows will be held in Kota Baru, Kelantan and in Perlis after Hari Raya Aidilfitri which is on July 19. The road show will be together with leaders from DAP and PKR to meet the public which is also to assess our support through the country”, the source said.
The road show in Kota Baru was included former PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, DAP parliamentary chief Lim Kit Siang and PKR election director Datuk Saifudin Nasution Ismail. Meanwhile, Mat Sabu also expected to helm the Perlis road show together with other DAP and PKR leaders. Besides that, Mat Sabu also said that the movement together with DAP and PKR will hold a series of roadshows nationwide to meet with the public and assess their popularity.
Mat Sabu expected to get the support from Muslim non-governmental organisations such as Ikram and Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) although the new movement would be looked down by others, especially among the non-Muslims and professionals.
