LIPIS, Aug 17 – Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs (KPDNKK) is fully supportive of the idea of ‘Low Yat 2’ as a new platform for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to sell electronic equipment and telecommunications genuine.
KPDNKK minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin said the proposal of the Minister of Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri was not racist because it can be beneficial to all parties and not limited to only indigenous people.
“We support the proposal as it is beneficial to all parties, especially to consumers in getting genuine equipment. For this purpose, we will provide a ‘trust mark’ or stamp of recognition to any genuine goods sold due to the ‘Low Yat 2’,” he told to the reporters after launching the Lipis Umno division delegates meeting here Sunday.
Also present were Umno division chief, Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad and his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abd Razak. Ismail Sabri previously proposed a sales area of computer products, and telecommunications equipment specially designed to Malay and Bumiputera traders on the platform Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). However, the proposal was viewed negatively by some quarters including MCA leaders who claim he is a racist.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said he would act more firmly against traders who try to take advantage of and suppressing the user to raise prices indiscriminately and extreme. Hamzah also said he would consider authorizing the Consumer Council Members in each area as well as members of consumer associations to take action against traders who carry out the activities concerned.
