SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 – The Selangor administration was tabled a deficit budget of RM2.880 billion for next year with an equal amount of money allocated for both operating and development spending which also a biggest budget in the state’s history. Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the funds set aside for development, which totalled RM1.440 billion are the largest in the history of any state.

Meanwhile, there were allmost two thirds of the development expenditure, or 74%, is for infrastructure projects such as road works, drainage and irrigation, and projects to increase water supply. Although the budget has a RM630 million deficit next year, he said the increased money for development was necessary to counter a sluggish economy in 2016.

Azmin said this when tabling the budget for next year at Selangor Assembly in Shah Alam here on Thursday. In the same time, this was also the second deficit budget tabled by the Selangor government since 2008 when Barisan Nasional (BN) first lost the state.
