GEORGE TOWN, Nov 2 – An officiate opening ceremony of International Meatless Day Charity Carnival 2015 at the Methodist Boys School along Jalan Ayer Itam, Penang here on Sunday from 10am to 3pm with the present of State Executive Councillor YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.
More than 80 varieties of food and refreshments with all vegetarian of the various cultures were featured at the unique event. This year, the carnival features the introduction of several new delicacies and flavours by local restaurants and vegetarian food suppliers in Malaysia.
The Meatless Day Carnival is supported by the Penang State Government while organised by the Malaysian Meatless Day Campaign Committee. In the meantime, it will be also proceeds from the carnival will go to the Sadhu Vaswani Welfare Fund & FoodBANK4U.
The project is in line with the Penang state’s focus to promote local tourism and support new food industries to contribute an additional avenue for long-term economic growth. The Chairman of the Malaysian Meatless Day Campaign Committee Pishu Murli Hassaram said there is a tremendous variety of vegetarian offerings in Penang whether Indian, Nyonya, Western, Malay or Chinese.
He said this is a fact we need to make known to our tourists, both local and foreign which also demand for vegetarian cuisine is growing, and there is already a large cultural preference among Asians. He said the statistics show that non-vegetarians are driving this market due to demand for alternative meals and trend for healthier diet.
