GEORGE TOWN, Nov 29 – Shamsher Singh Thind, DAP delegate from Taman Chai Leng criticised the election system for the state party committee which he described as being not transparent and unfair. He said the system of election for the state DAP committee should be amended to give full power to the grassroots to choose their own leaders.
For example, he said, in the party election in Selangor recently, the majority of the delegates had elected Gobind Singh Deo, but Tony Pua, who occupied the eighth spot, was chosen as the chairman. He said this during the debate at 2015 DAP Penang State Ordinary Convention here today.
“The system of election for the Penang DAP committee should be amended to make it more transparent so that the one obtaining the highest vote could be made the chairman. Meanwhile, I also would like to urged the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the State DAP Committee to impose a condition that if the DAP was offered the post of Penang Chief Minister, it should be given to the state DAP chairman and not any other person,” he said.
