KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 – Umno needs to win the 14th General Election on its own strength and not depend on the opposition party’s weaknesses, said Kelantan UMNO Youth representative. Machang Umno Youth chief, Eriandi Ismail did not rule out that the issue of party unity had become a major development as it was touched in the presidential briefing Tuesday and Wednesday’s policy speech of Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
“Some leaders considered the issue of unity as a small issue and paid more attention to internal split among opposition parties. Don’t be like ‘Pak Pandir’, when his child died, he said to his wife who was crying: Don’t be sad, our neighbour’s child also died,” Eriandi said when debating the motion of thanks for Khairy’s policy speech at the Umno Youth General Assembly 2015, here, Wednesday.
Hence, Eriandi said party leaders at every level needed to re-evaluate their political approach and find ways to strengthen the cooperation among party members. In the meantime, Eriandi also urged the wing’s delegates not emulate the ‘flip-flop attitude’ adopted by PAS.
“Don’t be like PAS, yesterday they say they can join Umno and Barisan Nasional to give out flood aid but on the same day they also condemn us. This kind of attitude needs to be avoided. We must be consistent in our policy, which is to uphold the religion, race and country,” he added.
