PORT DICKSON, Dec 13 – The army will beef up security in Sabah and Sarawak in line with the Ministry of Defence’s strategy. Army Chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the army would set up additional teams permanently in these two states.

“Strengthening the eastern command is one of the focus of the army. It is to complement the security along the borders with neighbouring countries which covers a long stretch. At the Malaysia-Thailand border, we are also considering setting up operations through a forward operations base to curb transborder crimes,” he told reporters after a passing-out parade by 1,633 young soldiers including 38 women at the Basic Army Training Centre (Pusasda) here Saturday.

Also present were Army Deputy Chief Lt Gen Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi and Army Training Commander Maj Gen Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Zuki. Raja Mohamed Affandi said the army was also planning to set up another border brigade soon.
