KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 – A representative from Melaka UMNO yesterday suggested the setting up of a data base to link unemployed graduates with possible employers, locally and abroad. Kota Melaka Puteri UMNO leader Haryaty Hamdzah said this was in view of the high number of unemployed graduates in the country, which was 454,000 people last year.

“In additional, the sadder part is that 57 per cent of them are women, although they made up more than 70 per cent of students in institutions of higher learning,” she said this when debating the motion on economy at the 2015 UMNO general assembly here on Saturday.

Haryaty, who is also Puteri UMNO Information chief, said the Manpower Department and the Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) should play a more effective role to overcome unemployment among graduates. She said these agencies should provide more information, have efficient and customer-friendly officers to help graduates look for jobs.
