GEORGE TOWN, Dec 17 – The Penang State Federal Action Council (MTPNg) is planning to expand the marine conservation project site at Pantai Batu Ferringhi under Phase II of the Coastal Conservation and Improvement of Sea Water Quality project. MTPNg chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said the council would request an additional allocation of RM30 million from the federal government next year for the purpose.
The proposed expansion of the project site would allow visitors to carry out recreational activities and also further improve the quality of sea water, he told reporters after a visit to the site with the media on Tuesday. On the first phase of the project, he said it was scheduled for completion in February next year.
The project was implemented in October last year at a cost of RM10.8 million to overcome sea and beach pollution there. Zainal Abidin, who is also Penang UMNO liaison committee chairman, is confident Batu Ferringghi would become a tourist attraction upon completion of the Coastal Conservation and Improvement of Sea Water Quality project.
Earlier, at a media conference at the State Federal Development office, Zainal Abidin said the council was awaiting approval from the state government to set up seven markets on the island. He said it has been two years and they hope to get the response from the state government as soon possible. In another development, he advised applicants of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) to update their particulars online at www.ebr1m.gov.my.
