GEORGE TOWN, Feb 15 – More than thousand people were attended the Jade Emperor’s Birthday Celebrations at Chew Jetty, Weld Quay this evening. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew joins in the Penang state leadership in continuing a time tried tradition. Also in attendance is DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and members of exco.
At Chew Jetty, a 36-metre long table was set up and food offerings were placed on the table for the deity while giant dragon joss sticks were also burned. At the stroke of midnight, fireworks and firecrackers light up the night skies as devotees offer prayers to the Jade Emperor.
The Chew Jetty had took on a festival atmosphere with a live stage show and lion dance performances today despite the heavy downpour in the hours leading up to midnight. Meanwhile, dignitaries was also doing the lau sang in welcoming the Jade Emperor Festival at the Chew Jetty, Weld Quay.
