PUTRAJAYA, March 9 – A motion of no confidence cannot be made in ambush and should in fact be announced through a notice to the House earlier, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia. Referring to the no-confidence motion against Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman at the current sitting of the State Legislative Assembly yesterday, he said it should not have taken place in a modern democratic country like Malaysia.

He said this is like an ambush, by looking at the attendance of the other side before standing up. In a democracy, he said there should be no cheating. He said this when opening Menara Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) here today. The state assemblyman for Kijal, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who is Ahmad Razif’s predecessor, yesterday tabled a motion of no confidence against the menteri besar just before ending his debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address.

Terengganu Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong however rejected the motion. The state assemblyman disclosed that he moved the motion because there was a conspiracy to tarnish his name in politics as well as being the people’s representative.
