KANGAR, March 9 – The Mufti of Perlis, Prof Madya Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin advised Muslims to always see the greatness of Allah through the creation of the universe and refrain from believing in superstitions that can distort the Islamic faith. He said the solar eclipse was evidence of Allah’s wisdom which should be appreciated and reflected on so that man was ever grateful for His favours and always remained obedient as servants on this earth.

“There are some people who believe that the solar eclipse occurrence can do wonders to plants, presumably to have more fertile and fruitful trees, one should hit the tree trunks during an eclipse,” he told the reporters after performing a special eclipse prayer at Alwi Mosque this morning with a congregation of over 700 men and women led by the Imam of the mosque, Ustaz Khairul Ikhwan Zaki.

Mohd Asri said superstitious belief was very much opposed and prohibited in Islam as it was a great sin to associate partners with Allah. On the eclipse prayer in Perlis today, Asri said the Perlis mufti office had instructed all imam in the 105 mosques in the state to lead the prayers and deliver a special sermon calling all Muslims to reflect upon the creation of Allah, in particular, the universe.
