GEORGE TOWN, March 12 – Adopting earth-friendly ways of disposing unwanted electronic and electrical equipment has just been made easier. On 3 March, Strait Quay Marina launched the Household E-Waste Collection Campaign to encourage recycling while educating the public on the proper way to handle handling of unwanted household electronic and electronical appliances with the community.
The 2-month campaign, which runs until 1 May from 10:30am – 10:30pm, was officiated by State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh alongside representatives from other supporters of the initiative that include Senior Executive of Shan Poornam Sdn Bhd, Nor Suriati; Assistant Director of Jabatan Alam Sekitar Malaysia, Salahudin Bin Sidik; E-Waste Alam Alliance Malaysia; and Penang Green Council.
Members of the public are encouraged to hand over electronic discards such as laptops, CPUs, cameras, mobile phones, household electrical items and others to the Straits Quay Information Counter throughout the campaign duration. The unwanted items will then be sent for recycling by Shan Poornam Metals Sdn Bhd, a solutions provider in managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
