GEORGE TOWN, March 12 – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained an Indonesian fishing boat with a skipper and five crewmen who had encroached into Malaysian waters 44 nautical miles north-west of Pulau Kendi, near here yesterday.
Penang District Maritime 2 MMEA Enforcement Head, Maritime First Admiral Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said the fishing boat was detained at 11am yesterday for encroaching into the Malaysian fishing zone and catching fish without permission besides not having any registration number.
“At the time of detention, there was a skipper and five crewmen aged between 19 and 35, who were all from Indonesia, on the boat. They were detained and taken to the Batu Maung Shipyard Jetty for further action. The MMEA also impounded the boat and seized 300 kilograms of fish,” he said in a statement today.
