PETALING JAYA, Jun 22 – AirAsia Bhd is acquiring a Bombardier Global Express aircraft for US$10 million (RM40.3 million) for executive efficiency and better cost efficiency, under a related part deal. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, it said that it had entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Caterhamjet Global Ltd yesterday for the acquisition of one Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express 9M-CJG.
AirAsia said the acquisition will provide convenience and efficient transport to executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes when travelling on work. It would also see better cost efficiency by bringing flight and maintenance crew back into AirAsia from Tune Group Sdn Bhd. Under an agreement with Tune Group, AirAsia currently pays the salaries of staff it seconded to Tune Group to operate the aircraft. AirAsia will acquire the aircraft with internally available funds.
