GEORGE TOWN, Feb 12 – Penang Chap Goh Meh Celebration 2017, which marks the last day of the 15-day Chinese New Year celebration, was happening at Fort Cornwallis here this evening together with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife, Betty Chew.
Among the highlights were the traditional orange throwing practice, a lion and dragon dance performance, Chingay as well as the performance by the Baba Nyonya troupe. There were also showcases by local artistes and traditional dances. For the predominantly Hokkien population in Penang, Chap Goh Meh is also celebrated as the Chinese Valentine’s Day.
Melissa Chong, 19, from Sarawak, with her friends Melissa Wee and Ivy Ho, said they were first time visit Penang Chap Goh Meh Celebration. They said they wouldn’t miss the celebration as they was told it was usually a grand affair. They said they was happy to join this event as Sarawak did not have this grand celebration.
