GEORGE TOWN, Feb 19 – The Penang Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) today urged the Football Association of Penang (FAP) to take immediate action to rectify the Penang football team’s pathetic performance. Its Information chief Fahmi Zainol said FAP must revamp the FAP management from the top to bottom, including the coach.

“The FAP management must show a good example by appointing the most suitable candidates to manage the state’s football association. AMK Penang believes the FAP management would listen to grouses of the fans and take full responsibility for the poor performance of the team,” he said in a statement here today.

Fahmi said the team coached by Ashley Westwood may end up with the worst record in the history of the team’s participation in the Super League since the introduction of the Super League in 2004. Penang are currently at the bottom of the Super League table after five consecutive defeats, conceding 11 goals in the process and scoring only once.

The last straw was the 1-6 defeat to Pahang at the Darul Makmur Stadium last night. Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament Zairil Khir Johari was appointed as FAP president on Feb 6, after Datuk Nazir Ariff Munshi Ariff had stepped down in January. — Bernama
