GEORGE TOWN, May 4 – Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng denounced Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng inciting and provoking state Malay leaders to siege him for speaking up for Chinese – by Lim’s advantage after allocating huge amounts of RM450 million to state Islamic affairs – is a political rogue behavior.
“Lim as a Chief Minister holding high my portrait in front of Malay leaders, and asked them to regconise my face and fully attacking me. This made me shocked and stunned. As a Chinese Chief Minister, he provoked other ethnic groups to attack me as a Chinese too. Is this what a Chinese Chief Minister should behave?”
Regarding Lim incited Malay leaders to attack him, Tan said although his friends were worried about his personal safety, but he will not retreat. Because MCA makes clear the purpose and main theme from the very beginning that MCA is to defend the Chinese interests in this plural society.
He also pointed out that Penang is a habitation for Chinese. There are a lot of Chinese religious groups and temples in Penang. What is the reason of Lim’s allocation to Chinese religions is far less than Islam? Datuk Tan Teik Cheng stressed that he has never objected Lim allocated huge fund to Islam.
But he is dissatisfied with Lim’s disparity in allocation for non-Islamic affairs, including the Chinese. Non-Islamic affairs received too little, it is not comparable to the Chinese ratio in the state. It is really unfair to 85% Chinese voters who vote for him. Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said even if Lim incited the Malay leaders to siege him, he still insists his remark that Lim gets Penang Chinese votes to take care of the Malays is correct.
The facts speak louder than words. Lim Guan Eng has personally admitted 94% of the state works were awarded to the Malay contractors. Most of the LMC units were allocated to Malays. More than 2,000 Temporary occupation licence (TOL) approved within six years, but Chinese only got 808.
And the most furious is Lim built all four foreign workers’ dormitories in Chinese residential areas and next to the Chinese New Village. All the data show that Lim belives Chinese votes have been firmly placed in his pocket after GE 12 and GE 13. So he implemented all kinds of policy that please Malays. He wants to get all the votes from all ethnic groups. Thus he sacrifices 85% of Chinese votes who supported him.
