GEORGE TOWN, Jun 13 – Police extended the remand up to three days for the three teenagers, aged between 17 and 19, and one day for the remaining 2 teenagers who accused of assaulting and sodomising an 18-year-old here recently. The five were brought to the magistrate’s court here clad in orange lock-up outfits at about 11am.
Four of the accused were represented by V Parthipan, while the fifth was not represented. Family members gathered at the court complex and were seen sobbing when the five were escorted out. They have been remanded under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons. The five were picked up on Saturday for allegedly assaulting and sodomising T. Nhaveen. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced brain-dead yesterday.
Nhaveen, from Taman Tun Sardon, Bukit Gelugor, was allegedly attacked when he and his friend T. Previin, 19, ran into two former school bullies at a burger stall in the neighbourhood on Friday. They were eventually cornered by a group of six, who attacked them with crash helmets, sticks and shoes. Nhaveen’s friend, T. Previin, 19, managed to escape and inform Nhaveen’s family members. — PN
