GEORGE TOWN, Jun 20 – Around RM688,000 in cash and RM27 million in bank accounts have been seized and frozen in a massive multi-agency swoop on a money game scheme company operating in Penang and Kedah. Besides that, the authorities also seized three luxury cars – a Range Rover, a Jaguar and a Toyota Vellfire. The RM27 million frozen was in a “new” bank account.

However, there was no mention of arrests of individuals in the statement by the domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry released today. The statement said the action was taken under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. MBI International Sdn Bhd and Mface International Sdn Bhd, subsidiaries of the MBI Group, have been red-flagged by Bank Negara on May 22.

So far, 302 companies are listed under the BNM financial consumer alert list for suspicion of not adhering to relevant laws and regulations in their operations. Meanwhile, The Star Online reported that a top official of the group was also arrested during the operation.  In additional, a press conference on the matter is expected to be held in Bank Negara’s office at Light Street this afternoon. — PN
