GEORGE TOWN, Jul 16 – About 4,500 over crowd joining the 10th Edition Penang Run 2017 which held at Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama here this early morning with the present of Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif. The event was jointly organised by Actife Style Concept, the state government and the council.
The hotel employee Khir Salleh, 54, grabbed the second spot in 1:25:36s in the men’s senior veteran category. He said he often runs 20km from his home in Taman Bukit Bendera to Holiday Inn Resort in Batu Ferringhi. He said running to work from his home helps build his stamina.
Quality assurance officer Annie Yee Pei Ni, 27, won the half-marathon Women Open category in the Penang Run. She said although she have not fully recovered from fever and flu but she persevered. In the same time, Kenyan James Munyi Maregu, 24, was the winner of the half- marathon Men Open category.
He said this was his first time taking part in the Penang Run. He said he train two hours in the morning and 50 minutes in the evening daily to boost his stamina. In the meanwhile Datuk Maimunah also completed the 4km Fun Run. He said he is happy to hear that there were about 4,500 people from 20 countries joining this event. — PN
