GEORGE TOWN, Sept 1 – In the conjunction of 60th Merdeka Celebration, the Penang Street Food Festival (PSFF) 2017 is back for the second time this year at Beach Street here this evening. The event was launched by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. About 70,000 people turned up for the event around 7pm. Expected to break the record during 2-days event.
The event was taking place along parts of Beach Street, Bishop Street, Church Street and Church Street Ghaut from 5pm to 11pm on both days. Event organising company TLM Event planned the festival with endorsement from the state government and support from Penang Global Tourism.
The PSFF aims to put Penang in the world map, with the much-loves Penang food. Famous street food around Penang including the mainland has been brought over here today and tomorrow. Among the huge varieties of mouth-watering dishes originating from Penang, ranging from the very own Penang street food to Malay, Indian, Peranakan, Hainanese, Chinese cuisines, European and even Arabic.
The mouth-watering delicacies which were available to be savoured and introduce in the event are the famous udang from Batu Ferringhi and Pulau Aman. The previous headline attraction, the famous ‘Daging Harimau Menangis’ (The Meat which made the tiger shed tears) whose seller came all the way from Tasek Gelugor will once again joining this event.
In the same time, the illusionist Avery Chin and his wife Sylvia Lim would be putting on a special performance at the main stage in Church Street Ghaut from 8pm to 8.30pm tomorrow. The couple are the Guinness World Record holders for the ‘quick change’ act. They will challenge their own Guinness World Record of 23 changes in one minutes tomorrow.
