LUMUT, Sept 5 – Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir today expressed regret over the vandalising of buntings bearing National Day and Aldiladha greetings strung in a housing area, near the Seri Manjung Mini Stadium, since last Wednesday. He voiced his dismay over what he described as an irresponsible act, through his official Twitter account where he has also uploaded pictures of the damaged buntings.

“My posters in Seri Manjung were damaged. They were not a disturbance to anyone, (but) they had to be hung back four times. We don’t teach people politics of thuggery,” he tweeted. Meanwhile, Lumut division Umno Youth information chief, Mohd Rafiq Mohd Ghani said the buntings were put up at 6pm last Wednesday after obtaining permission from the Manjung Municipal Council.

“However, the buntings were down on the ground the next day. Initially, we thought it was due to the wind, so I asked some members to hang them back. But after four times, we suspected this was an act of mischief by some irresponsible quarters as there were signs of the buntings being forcefully pulled down from the tear marks.

“Strangely, though, the other buntings in the area were not disturbed,” he said when contacted by Bernama today. Mohd Rafiq said his side decided to remove the buntings last night as they were badly damaged. “We do not lodge a police report, but we hope those involved in the act would behave professionally and practise healthy politics instead,” he added. — Bernama
