KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 – The Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim) today advised social media users against circulating negative perceptions and allegations about the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia to the extent of raising public hatred towards them. Abim secretary-general Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz said it would be more noble for the people to extend aid and cooperation to find the best solution to the plight of the Rohingya who had to flee their own country due to alleged suppression.
“Of late, certain quarters have voiced negative comments without understanding the real issue of the Rohingya in Malaysia. Criticism is not wrong but there should be an understanding of the root cause. For example, some have written of their personal interaction with the Rohingya and accused them of being uncultured and dirty,” he told a press conference here.
He advised Malaysians to keep up with the developments on the Royingya issue to get the correct news on the humanitarian crisis. At the event, Abim also launched a book that explains the actual situation with regard to the Rohingya issue. It will be issued free to the public at events organised by Abim. — Bernama
