GEORGE TOWN, Sept 24 – The launching of China Cultural Night – Charm of Chengdu was happened at Fort Cornwallis here this evening with the present of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. The event was organised by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang in collaboration with the Penang state Government.
Themed “Charm of Chengdu”, the showcase at this festival is on the beauty of this city, highlighting its similarities with Penang, from picturesque sights to ethnic diversity, art and culture, food and many more. The event started from acrobatic performances to cultural dances, from its Sichuanese cuisine to tertiary education offered by Chengdu University, each and every aspect that was offered to delight guests who turned up, did not go unnoticed and earned the high regards of everyone.
Lim, in his official speech as the Guest of Honour, even suggested for the China Cultural Night to be made an annual affair in Penang. Also present were Lim’s political secretary Wong Hon Wai, exco for Tourism Danny Law, Chengdu Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office Division Chief Feng Jian and Chinese consul-general in Penang Wu Jun. — PN
