PETALING JAYA, Jan 1 – WhatsApp users around the world, including Malaysia, were unable to send New Year’s messages to their friends and family after the messaging app crashed. However, a spokesperson of the messaging platforms said the issue had been resolved shortly after the outage.

According to Down Detector’s outage map the technical difficulties affected millions of people across Europe, India, Malaysia, the US, Brazil, Japan, Panama, South Africa and Qatar.  The spokesman said WhatsApp users around the world experienced a brief outage today that has now been resolved and we apologise for the inconvenience. The outage comes days after the tech giant announced it would no longer function on some operating systems after Dec 31, including Blackberry and Windows phones.
