PETALING JAYA, Jan 28 – Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz stressed that the ministry will stick with its Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMY2020) logo, despite it being panned as abuzz and poorly designed on social media. Nazri explained that the logo, launched during the Asean Tourism Forum 2018 (ATF), was well received by everyone at the forum as well as supported by foreign tourists.

It also aimed at the 36 million foreign tourists to the country and register RM168 billion in tourist receipts during the VMY 2020, so there would not be any issue here. “Those criticisms are normal, it was not meant for them. We have no intention to change to a new logo or make any changes to the existing one.

“We are not going back. It was meant for foreign tourist and not locals. When I launched it in Chiang Mai they liked and praised it. It’s okay if people want to say negative things,” Nazri said, noting that the same ministry employee designed the previous four VMY logos.

The logo, which is designed to look like a postage stamp, features a cartoon of an orangutan in sunglasses hugging a proboscis monkey, a silhouette of the Petronas Twin Towers and a turtle on a beach also wearing sunglasses, with the tagline of ‘Travel. Enjoy. Respect’. — PN
