PENANG Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) is organizing its sixth round of Column Writing competition with the theme of “UMUR18 JADI CALON – YOUR VOICE MATTERS” from 15th April to 14th May 2021. PYDC is delighted to announce the relaunching of its Column Writing Competition which will be held quarterly. This initiative allows youth to spark their creativity in expressing their opinions towards different issues.
Penang state EXCO for Youth and Sports, YB Soon Lip Chee, who is also the chairman of PYDC said the inaugural column writing competition which was launched since August 2020 received a total of 1,336 submissions from the participants. “In accordance with the Penang2030 vision, the column writing competition is series of program initiated by PYDC that is under the self-development pillar which enhances the creativity of the youth in terms of writing as well as to encourage their social participation.”
“It has certainly acknowledged the continuous commitment initiated by the Penang State Government and PYDC on empowering and developing the youth in Penang. Penang youth can make full use of this MCO to read, write and relook at the society’s development to change it for a better future,” he explained. PYDC’s General Manager, Dr. Gwee Sai Ling said that PYDC hopes that this new topic can help to highlight the importance on increasing civic awareness among the youth in Penang, as well as to provide opportunities for them to share their views on this issue.
“We welcome Penang youth who are interested in this topic to express their views and opinions on UMUR18 JADI CALON – Your Voice Matters,” she said. The competition is free and is open to four languages – Malay, English, Chinese, and Tamil. There is no limit to the number of participants. This writing contest is open to young people aged 15-30. The submission for PYDC’s Column Writing Competition “UMUR18 JADI CALON – YOUR VOICE MATTERS” should not be more than 300 words and the participants must send their articles in Google form through PDF and Microsoft Word document format.
Besides, the submission must not contain any sensitive and negative contents. At the same time, only original works will be accepted. The organizer has the rights to reject and disqualify participants who violate the terms and conditions. The competition is also open to two different age categories, which are
Category A (15 – 18 years old) and Category B (19 – 30 years old).
The best 3 articles from each language will win cash prize such as: Category A: RM 150.00 and Category B: RM 150.00
In addition, PYDC is glad to announce that the 5th Column Writing has ended successfully. The competition started on the 27th February and ended on the 6th March. The theme that was set for this round was, “Be a Boss or Be a Leader” and had an adequate response. By providing such an engrossing topic to highlight on the importance of differentiating a boss and a leader, gave the youth the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas. As this topic brings an important role of being the future leaders of our country.
Two categories were given for this topic, Category A for the age of 15 to 18, and for Category B age of 19 – 30. We received 6 submissions for category A and 54 submissions was received for category B. The winners of each categories are as per below:
