1. I took note of the issue of late payment of COVID-19 Special Assistance (BKC) which was supposed to be implemented last August. Therefore, I have instructed the Ministry of Finance to expedite the payment of BKC. Today (1 September 2021) funds amounting to RM3.1 billion were channeled to relevant banking institutions.
2. The Phase 1 crediting process will begin on 6 September 2021 and is expected to be completed on 10 September 2021. BKC will benefit a total of 10 million recipients comprising the hardcore poor, B40 and M40 categories as well as qualified singles. (Refer to Table 1)
3. BKC is part of the People’s Protection and Economic Recovery Package (PEMULIH) initiative, in addition to additional payments to the economic stimulus package.
4. On 28 June 2021, the government announced the PEMULIH Package as one of the initiatives to provide comprehensive assistance to the people in overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
5. Subsequent payments will be made according to the set schedule. (Refer to Table 2)
6. I am always sensitive to the people’s grievances and hope that this BKC payment will be able to alleviate the burden of the people affected by COVID-19
7. The Government remains committed to ensuring the well -being of Malaysian families, especially the target groups.
