PENANG, September 15 – The Mengkuang Dam in Seberang Prai is temporarily closed to the public to prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Penang. Its closure is in compliance with an order issued by the Seberang Prai Tengah Health Office yesterday (15.9.2021). Issued under the Prevention and Control of Contagious Diseases Act 1988, the order states the following: “In carrying out powers under Section 18(1)(d) of the Act, I as an authorised officer, rule for the closure of the Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP), Mengkuang Dam, P133 Kampung Mengkuang, 14000 Kubang Semang, Penang, for 7 days, for the reason that it may cause an outbreak and spread a contagious disease.”
The signatory is the deputy health officer of the Seberang Prai Tengah district health office. PBAPP will comply fully with this order in the interests of public safety and prevention of further spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic in Penang. Accordingly, PBAPP’s auxiliary police personnel have been directed to prevent public entry into the premises of the Mengkuang Dam. Members of the public are hereby advised to NOT go to the Mengkuang Dam. All unauthorised visitors will be stopped at the entry point and asked to return home. PBAPP regrets any inconvenience caused to people who are seeking to visit the dam for recreational purposes but an official public health closure notice has been issued.
Please note that the following safety rules as imposed by Kementrian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) will be applied to Air Itam Dam, Teluk Bahang Dam and Bukit Dumbar Recreation Park with immediate effect.
- Ensure that only individuals/visitors who are fully vaccinated are allowed to enter the dam area and use the facilities
- Individuals who are 17 years old and below are only allowed to enter the dam area with their parent(s); with the condition that the parent(s) are be fully vaccinated
- Activities which may cause large gathering of individuals/visitors leading to difficulty in physical distancing and adherence to the instructions by the Director General of Health are strictly prohibited.
Only persons who show the following “My Sejahtera” statuses will be allowed to enter:
- “LOW RISK”
- “CASUAL CONTACT”
People with the following “unsafe” statuses will not be allowed entry.
- “CLOSE CONTACT”
- “PERSON UNDER SURVEILLANCE (PUS)”
- “SUSPECTED CASE”
- “CONFIRMED CASE – ASYMPTOMATIC”
Please note that the above safety rules will apply also to Mengkuang Dam when it re-opens on 223.9.2021.
