PUTRAJAYA, September 23 – The National Employment Council (NEC) which met for the third time yesterday (22 September 2021), was informed that more than 376,000 job seekers have managed to get jobs through 27 initiatives implemented by the government as of 10 September 2021. This Council, comprised of 12 Cabinet Ministers, the Chief Secretary to the Government and 12 representatives from the private sector, chaired by me.
The success of placing such workers exceeded the target set for the first nine months of this year, which is 354,276 job opportunities as of September 30, 2021. It shows the government’s intention to create 500,000 job opportunities for this year will be achieved. In addition, the government has also managed to create more than 97,000 new jobs through domestic investment with 76% of them being in the skilled and semi -skilled categories. The number is part of a target of 160,000 new jobs resulting from investment commitments for 2021.
To empower the Malaysian workforce to be more resilient, highly skilled and internationally renowned, the government will implement the National Job Creation Strategic Plan (NJCSP) which will be supported by five specialized taskforces under the NEC. Job creation in Malaysia will also be enhanced through six main thrusts, namely:
i. Enhance collaboration between industry and academia
ii. Nurture talent to meet the needs of the industry
iii. Empowering local entrepreneurs to thrive in the current economy
iv. Leverage the ‘gig economy’ to search for revenue -generating opportunities
v. Driving the growth of new and modern sectors
vi. Accelerate the adoption of modern workplace practices.
The six cores will be a guide for the implementation of six game changers, including applying artificial intelligence technology for the purpose of matching and career planning as well as improving the marketability and quality of TVET graduates. Among NJCSP’s proposals is the creation of a dedicated platform for the coordination of information of all TVET institutions in Malaysia as well as the programs and opportunities offered to match them with suitable TVET institutions to facilitate future career searches.
The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Human Resources have also been given the responsibility to develop a one -stop digital platform to ensure that training and skills upgrading programs conducted by various ministries and agencies can be implemented and monitored in a structured and effective manner. The meeting also agreed that the courses offered be based on current economic needs, demographics and local economic needs.

Finally, the government is confident that the NEC strategy including the implementation of the NJCSP can continue the momentum of economic recovery and increase job creation while addressing issues such as labor shortages in certain sectors, equal opportunities for the vulnerable and employment-related problems.
