PENANG, September 29 – Handover of the FT001 Federal Route Upgrading Project from Permatang Keling Junction (Sec 720) to the Bridge Above Sg. Junjung, Simpang Empat (Sec. 740) as well as the inauguration of the FT.001/724/5 bridge upgrading project that crosses Sungai Kerian and the construction of a flyover across the Federal Road junction to Jalan Transkrian FT.001/FT283, both in Seberang Perai Selatan District , Penang, took place today.Present to complete the handing over of the FT001 upgrade project for the route and officiate the FT.001/724/5 bridge upgrade project was the Senior Minister of Works, Dato ’Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof. The FT001 upgrade project for the route was implemented by Kontraktor Seleksi Sensasi Sdn Bhd under the supervision of the Road Branch, Public Works Department (JKR) as the Government Implementing Agency. The ownership date of this project site is on 5 December 2017 and was fully completed in 2 days on 24 February 2021.
It is also informed that the original cost of this project is RM 116,600.000.00 and was successfully completed at a cost of RM 109,353,204.99 with a saving of RM 7,246,795.01. This austerity is a good sign in the government’s efforts to practice austerity in the implementation of national infrastructure projects. The total length of this project is 20km and the main scope of this project involves the following work:-
i. Upgrade this road from 2 lanes to 4 2 -way lanes
ii. Upgrading the road drainage system to overcome the problem of flash floods
iii. Upgrading 2 New bridges at Paya Bahang Bridge and Di Parit E2 Bridge and 2 sewer structures at Sungai Kunyit and at Sungai Bakar Arang.
This project has been successfully submitted to the MoW with the achievement of “14 in 1” which involves the following aspects:
i. Submission of Certificate Of Practical Completion
ii. Early completion from current completion date (early 2 days)
iii. Submission of As Bulit Drawing was made before the Certificate of Completion (CPC)
iv. The statement of final certificate (SOFA) was successfully issued 2 months after the Certificate Ready to Work (CPC)
v. Savings of RM 7,246,795.01 from the original contract cost of RM 116,600,000.00 (current cost RM 109,353,204.99)
vi. Zero major defect
vii. Full compliance with Environmental Quality
viii. Full compliance with the Safety and Health Management System Employees (SPKKP)
ix. Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI), zero accidents
x. Full compliance with Covid-19 SOP (no positive cases found)
xi. Submission of Coffee Table booklet
xii. The use of energy efficient LED lights that support green technology.
xiii. International Road Flatness Index (IRI) value of new roads 100% compliance;
xiv. Road Safety Audit (RSA) Compliance (RSA stage 4, Part 3 completed)
For the Project to upgrade the bridge FT.001/724/5 which crosses Sungai Kerian and build a flyover across the junction of Jalan Persekutuan to Jalan Transkrian FT.001/FT283, it has been given site ownership to a successful contractor, Besteel Engtech Sdn. Bhd. on 8 July 2021 and the completion date is scheduled for 7 July 2024. The project period is for 36 months with a contract value of RM 209,000,000.00.
The scope of this bridge upgrading project includes:-
a. Upgrading the road from two (2) lanes to four (4) two (2) way lanes with a standard U5 length of 1.35 km;
b. Upgrading 1 intersection at grade at FT001/FT283, Jalan Transkrian;
c. Build one (1) flyover at the intersection of USM FT001/FT283, Transkrian Road;
d. Build one (1) new bridge on Sungai Kerian;
e. Soil treatment and slope stabilization works;
f. Environmental protection works;
g. Installation of street lights, traffic lights and street furniture; and
h. Land acquisition and utility transfer.
