GEORGE TOWN, October 23 – On 21 October 2021 a post went viral on Facebook Social Media by Urban Life Volunteers claiming that members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) from the North East District Police Headquarters (IPD), Penang refused to accept a police report to be made by an obscene victim. Following the allegations, the North East IPD PDRM has conducted an internal investigation. On 22 October 2021, the complainant in the case appeared at the North East IPD and took evidence to confirm the allegations as transmitted.
The PDRM, especially the North East IPD, will conduct a thorough, transparent and fair investigation. If misconduct and negligence are detected in carrying out the assignment procedure, disciplinary action will be imposed on all PDRM officers or members involved. The act of refusing to accept a public police report by a police officer or member is a very serious offense and the PDRM will not compromise on any officer or member who is found to have committed the offense.
In connection with the lewd incident, an investigation paper was opened under section 354 of the Penal Code (offense of indecent exposure). PDRM, especially IPD Timur Laut, will continue to be committed to providing the best service to the entire community in line with the wishes of the top leadership of PDRM.
