GEORGE TOWN, October 27 – In collaboration with BigDomain, Rev Up Digital, BigAcademy, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), DISTED College, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC), Peninsula College, Rank Digital PLT, and SEGi College Penang, Penang Youth Development Corporation has organized Web Design Competition that is open to all full time Penang college and university students aged 17 to 35-year-old.
The registration for the competition will be open on 1 November 2021 to 15 November 2021. With each team consisting of 3 to 4 persons, up to 100 teams are expected to take part in the competition. With the aim to empower participants to develop creativity in website design, encourage youth to add value to their personal profile, produce youth that can strive in the digitalized era with excellence and lastly, to develop Penang into digital hub, all the said industry players and higher institutions have come together to organize such meaningful competition.
The competition that was launched earlier today will receive submission from 1 November 2021 to 30 November 2021 and will be judged by Wind Tan from Rev Up Digital, Edward Teh Yong Aun from AdsHelper Sdn Bhd, and Henry Tye from Big Domain. The criteria for the judging would be on the content, aesthetics, design and usability and accessibility. The top 10 finalist will be announced on 10 December 2021, and they will compete in the final round on 18 December 2021.
The launching of the competition was officiated by YB Soon Lip Chee, Penang State Exco for Youth and Sports. Together present on the launching was Dr Gwee Sai Ling, General Manager of PYDC, Dr Daisy Kee Mui Hung, Associate Professor School of Management USM, Khor Seng Cheong, Head of Academic Services Peninsula College, Chin Yit Kwong, Head of School of Computing and Engineering DISTED College, Ts Desmund Chau Guan Hin, Programme Leader in Faculty of Computing and Information Technology TARUC, Cheah Teong Keat, Principal of SEGi College Penang, Abby Toh, Business Development Director of BigDomain and Wind Tan, founder of Rev Up Digital.
From his launching speech, YB Soon Lip Chee mentioned that web development has become part of the digital marketing for connecting the world and The Penang State Government currently strives to leverage the digital industry and transform this industry as a significant economic powerhouse for the state. He hopes that this programme, will create the environment where youth will be able to experience cutting edge involvement for them to fully develop their potential and thus becoming outstanding talents in this digital landscape and community and to be a digital entrepreneur.
On another note, Dr Gwee stated that they are very aware that the knowledge and skills in digital and technology are crucial for youth to compete in this heavily digitalized world and the economic situation today is indeed challenging and if our youth do not take any actions to develop digital knowledge and skills, they will be further left behind especially with the emergence of the gig economy that is gaining attention. Thus, they have taken the initiative to co-organize the Web Design Competition to initiate something new and eventful for the youth to take part in as well as creating a platform for them to experience practical learning.
