PUTRAJAYA, November 24 – Malaysia and Singapore have reached more than 95 per cent of the adult population who have been vaccinated. This achievement provides an opportunity for both countries to reopen the land border in a phased, safe, systematic and sustainable manner. The governments of the two countries are working together to launch the Vaccine Complete Travel Route (VTL) on 29 November 2021. The launch of VTL-Land is in line with VTL-Air which aims to further enhance bilateral and economic ties between the two countries.
In addition to employees, VTL-Land will provide opportunities for Malaysians and Singaporeans on both sides of the Causeway who have been separated from their families by the COVID-19 pandemic to reunite with their loved ones. The VTL-Land initiative was implemented to launch non-quarantine cross-border movements that integrate health, security and immigration clearance protocols.
Travelers allowed to participate in VTL-Land are Malaysian and Singaporean citizens including Permanent Residents as well as Malaysian and Singapore Long Term Pass holders. Travelers must be fully vaccinated and for children under the age of 12 who are not vaccinated, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has been fully vaccinated. Eligible travelers are subject to COVID-19 testing and detailed health requirements determined by their respective countries. Currently, VTL-Land will be limited to bus transport only as a control mechanism and other modes of transport will be listed in stages.
The designated VTL-Land bus service to Singapore will use the Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal (Larkin Sentral) as the drop-off and drop-off center in Malaysia while the Queen Street Terminal (QST) as the drop-off and drop-off center in Singapore. The governments of the two countries have also agreed to set a daily quota of no more than 1,500 travelers at the initial stage, with an increase from week to week.
Travelers who enter Malaysia using VTL-Land need to register at https://mysafetravel.gov.my/ while travelers from Malaysia to Singapore, need to register at https://go.gov.sg/vtl-portal.
