PUTRAJAYA, December 16 – To date, Drug Control Authority (DCA) has approved Comirnaty vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, CoronaVac vaccine produced by Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccine to be used as booster doses。Further to that, the Technical Working Committee (TWG) has recommended that booster doses be given to all residents aged 18 years and above。The World Health Organization (WHO), through the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) has recommended that all recipients of a full dose of Sinovac vaccine or individuals 60 years of age and older (regardless of the type of primary series vaccine), should take a booster dose to maintain status complete vaccination.
This proposal was approved by the COVID-19-Booster (CITF-B) Immunization Special Task Force Meeting on 8 December 2021. Accordingly, individuals in the above-mentioned groups-all recipients of a complete dose of Sinovac vaccine or individuals aged 60 years and above (regardless of the type of primary series vaccine) should get a booster dose injection by February 2022. If the specified group of individuals still does not receive a booster dose injection after February 2022, the vaccination status will be changed to incomplete and the individual is not eligible to receive the facilities provided to recipients of a complete dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
