KUALA LUMPUR, December 28 – Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Muamalat) has never categorized cheque as halal or otherwise. As a banking institution, the bank accepts all valid cheque with complete and accurate details. The bank would also like to point out that the report of the check incident which was allegedly returned by the Bank Muamalat Seremban branch on the grounds of not being halal is inaccurate.
Bank Muamalat has contacted the customer because there was a technical error where the name of the association on the check was different from the registered name. Following that, the customer is asked to make a correction. Any inquiries submitted by the bank are only intended to meet existing banking compliance procedures, as well as for the benefit of the bank’s customers.
Meanwhile, in a press conference with Bank Muamalat and Lobak ADUN, YB Chew Seh Yong and the customers, held in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan this morning, all parties have reached an agreement that there is no halal element or otherwise regarding check deposit concerned, except for technical issues and isolated misunderstandings.
