PUTRAJAYA, December 3 – The priority on the part of the ATM is to evacuate flood victims to safe areas, especially the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS); speed up the delivery of food and essential goods to PPS and areas that have lost contact with roads and rural areas and assist the food preparation process in PPS that have been opened so far.
As of 12 noon today, in the State of Johor only, under OPS MURNI:
i. A total of 12 officers and 184 members of Other Ranks were in the field and performing operational duties.
ii. A total of 31 assets were mobilized to the affected areas including 7 units of boats, 7 units of boat engines, 1 unit of 7 tonne trucks, 14 units of 3 tonne trucks and 2 units of 1 tonne trucks.
To ensure the smooth running of OPS MURNI Johor, so far the ATM has mobilized members and assets from the 5th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment; 33rd Regiment Royal Artillery Regiment; 2nd Regiment Royal Artillery Regiment; 4th Regiment Royal Artillery Regiment; 6th Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment; 501st Territorial Army Regiment; and the 8th Squadron of the Royal Army Regiment of Engineers (RAJD)
The ATM always communicates with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and the Malaysian Meteorological Department to obtain the latest information on the current level of river water throughout the state of Johor as well as weather forecasts, especially in the South of the Peninsula.
Apart from Johor, OPS MURNI is also being actively implemented throughout the country. Overall, so far, the number of ATM personnel and assets that have been mobilized under OPS MURNI throughout the country including Johor are:
i. A total of 60 officers and 1,123 members of Other Ranks.
ii. A total of 190 assets include boats, boat engines, 7 tonne trucks, 3 tonne trucks, 1 tonne trucks, backhoes, tippers, water bowsers and field ambulances.
As I informed during the day, the OPS MURNI ATM plan will be updated from time to time according to the flood situation in a state and an area.
In line with the spirit of “No Army and People Separate”, the ATM will continue to work hard not only for the safety of the people in this flood season but also to assist in the implementation of post-flood clean-up work once the water recedes.
