KUALA LUMPUR, January 12 – The Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) would like to inform that Malaysia is still adopting border control procedures including testing and quarantine on travelers arriving in Malaysia, to reduce the risk of importing COVID-19 cases and prevent the occurrence of COVID-19. transmission of the viral infection. Therefore, cases with a positive RT-PCR test are not allowed to enter Malaysia.
At the same time, there are also travelers arriving in Malaysia with a history of COVID-19 infection. Based on scientific data and evidence as well as the experience of other countries related to the management of the influx of travelers who have been infected with COVID-19, the Government has taken the following approach:
i. Travelers must have received the vaccine complete with proof of receipt;
ii. Evidence of having been infected with COVID-19 within 11 days to 60 days prior to departure for Malaysia, through printed or digital laboratory test results; and
iii. Travelers who have a history of hospitalization due to COVID-19 infection must submit a “Fit to Travel” letter from a medical practitioner at the hospital.
For travelers who undergo isolation or isolation at a place of residence including a hotel because they are infected with COVID-19 and are not hospitalized, they need to undergo a professional RTK antigen (Ag) screening test within two (2) days before leaving for Malaysia. Only individuals with negative results are allowed to continue the journey.
All relevant documents for items (i), (ii) and (iii) above shall be brought and shown to the aviation and health authority at the entrance, if requested.
In addition to the above conditions, travelers must comply with the following requirements upon arrival in Malaysia; namely:
- Travelers are required to download and fill out a health declaration in the MySejahtera application;
- Travelers are required to scan the QR Code “Travelers from Abroad” by using the MySejahtera application upon arrival at the International Gateway (PMA) Malaysia;
- Travelers need to undergo health status screening including body temperature scan at PMA; and
- Travelers are required to undergo a COVID-19 detection test using RTK Ag in the presence of Government or private health personnel stationed at the PMA.
Upon arrival in Malaysia, travelers who have been infected with COVID-19 and have completed the COVID-19 vaccination do not need to undergo compulsory quarantine. However, for travelers who have not received complete vaccination or have not been vaccinated, travelers will be subject to mandatory quarantine of seven (7) days at the quarantine station.
All the latest regulations on the entry procedure into Malaysia by travelers who have been infected with COVID-19 will come into effect on Thursday, 13 January 2022.
Meanwhile for travelers who have never been infected with COVID-19, the current ruling still applies. The government will keep you informed of any developments on the situation and new regulations for travelers from time to time.
During their stay in Malaysia, travelers are reminded to always adopt new norms and adhere to the SOPs that have been set. The MOH also recommends that individuals who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to obtain a booster dose to achieve the optimal level of protection and avoid the symptoms of severe COVID-19 infection and its complications.
