GEORGE TOWN, January 12 – Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin announced a 6-month extension for the waiver of hotel fee and entertainment tax in Penang effective 1 January 2022.
Yeoh in a statement today, said that this hotel fee waiver is applicable to all registered hotels in the state; whereas the entertainment tax waiver will benefit performing art spaces, theme parks, tourist attractions, cinemas as well as businesses and industries in the State that are imposed with entertainment tax.
“Both waivers will be effective for the duration of 6 months until 30 June 2022,” he said.
He added that waivers as such are catalysts to hasten revitalisation of tourism economy, which is gradually gaining traction since the interstate borders are lifted.
“The revival of our tourism sector is amongst the areas of concern to the Penang State Government, we hope these waivers will somewhat help to stimulate the tourism market and drive demands,” he added.
