PENANG, January 20 – The campaign organized by the Final Year Persuasive Communication students, titled YOUphoria has finally come to an end. YOUphoria focuses on providing messages that educate youth on the value of self-care and empowerment, encourage youth to participate in self-care activities, and encourage youth to make positive lifestyle choices. Various events and activities have been conducted virtually from 25th November 2020 to 17rth January 2021 through YOUphoria social media platforms, @youphoriausm.
One of the highlights of the campaign is “YOU Shine” webinar that invited a motivational speaker, a writer, an influencer, Farhaan Rahmat together with an alumni School of Communication USM, 2nd Runner-Up Miss Earth Malaysia, Sanglisha Kunasekaran for discussion on self-worth, self-love, and types of insecurities. “YOU Own It” workshop is our second highlight of the campaign which aims to inspire youth to live a positive lifestyle by loving and accepting who they truly are.
YOUphoria’s recent and final event was The Golden YOU closing ceremony, which was conducted virtually through Webex Meeting that was streamed live on YOUphoria’s official Facebook account to wrap up this impactful campaign. More than 150 participants joined our closing ceremony on Webex Meeting and more than 30 participants joined through our Facebook Live Streaming.
Officiated by Dean School of Communication, Associate Professor Dr. Bahiyah binti Omar, the closing ceremony was graced with a positive speech on encouraging youth to love and empower themselves especially during this pandemic whenever facing every obstacle in life such as depression, dilemma, and zoom fatigue. The Dean School of Communication also called on people to focus and empower themselves because it helped people to go through the challenges that they faced right now.
During the closing ceremony, special guests which is the Former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and the member of parliament of Bukit Mertajam, Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Chee Keong and the collaborator, Mrs Karamjeet Kaur a self-love specialist, author of Amazon Best Hot Release Book 2020, and the founder of Self-Love Training Academy shared their opinions in the session titled “Nurturing Leadership Roles in Creating Future Leaders: A Youth Empowerment Talk”.
YB Sim shared his view on matters that we may have overlooked in life, which is that we are all living on the edge of images and videos. Posting on social media can be empowering but sometimes it also can cause a false sense of beauty, successful life. He advised the youth to deal with the technology and take the positive part as motivation to empower ourselves to be better.
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, is the most suitable sentence to describe Mrs. Karamjeet’s challenges on the journey that she faced to achieve her dreams. She emphasised the importance of being self-resilient because the youth in this era have to face a lot of challenges. Mrs. Karamjeet also encourages youth to be responsible for their life and actions by being a leader. She added that a leader doesn’t have to lead everyone but to be themself.
The closing ceremony also consist of lucky draw session, with attractive prizes. Winners of all the competition held throughout the campaign were also announced during the closing ceremony. The winners are as listed.
