BAYAN LEPAS, February 7 – The water reservoir at the end of the Bukit Kukus Bridge (part of the Tun Sardon Link) occurred on 5 February 2022 at approximately 6.30 pm due to heavy rain in the area. The Penang City Council (MBPP) regrets this events that occur because of such an inside should not occur.
MBPP immediately instructed the MBPP project consulting engineers and contractors to turn the field to solve the problem. Preliminary investigations have shown that the water reservoir occurred due to a lot of rubbish as well as dry leaves that have blocked the flow of water to the existing drainage system. The clean-up work was carried out immediately and the water had receded in the shortest time.
However, MBPP took the incident very seriously and asked the MBPP project consulting engineer to provide a detailed explanation of the incident. At the same time, MBPP has invited experts from The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) (Penang Branch) to work with MBPP and MBPP consulting engineers to identify the main causes of the incident and provide advice, especially from technical aspects.
A site visit was held by YBhg, Dato ‘Ar. Yew Tung Seang, Mayor of MBPP, YBrs. Ir. Rajendran a/l P. Anthony, City Secretary, Ir. Bernard Lim, chairman of IEM (Penang Branch) and also representatives from IM (Penang Branch), as well as representatives from the contractor this morning (February 7, 2022) before the discussion was held to submit a proposal for LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS (long-term solutions).
Apart from that, MBPP will also conduct regular patrols and monitor through CCTV at the MBPP Intelligent Operations Center (IOC). Strict action will be taken against the public who stop at the shoulder of the road as well as those who throw & litter everywhere along the Bukit Kukus Twin Road. MBPP hopes that the public can together take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and safety in the area.
