PUTRAJAYA, March 5 – Prime Minister YAB Dato Sri Ismail Sabri pleased to inform that the Cabinet Meeting today has agreed to implement the Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT 3) project as well as improve the implementation of the Sabah-Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) project and flood mitigation project.
Priority will be given to local contractors, especially Bumiputera to generate business opportunities and employment opportunities for Malaysian families. This will drive economic growth and development, in particular the Government’s objective to further strengthen the business sector, as well as create 600,000 jobs this year.
The Government has decided to approve the implementation of the MRT 3 project which will complement the existing public transport infrastructure in the Klang Valley, by providing integrated, affordable and seamless services for Malaysian Families.
Regarding the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB), the First Phase of the Sabah LPB is being implemented and involves 15 packages where the work progress so far has reached 52% and is expected to be fully completed by October 2024. To improve the ring road for Malaysian families in Sabah, the Government agreed to proceed with the implementation of 19 additional work packages that will involve an alignment of 367 kilometers with a construction period of 5 years.
The first phase of LPB Sarawak will involve a range of 786km and has achieved 78% work progress so far. To complement the Sarawak LPB, the Government has also agreed to implement the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) and Trans Borneo Highway (LTB) projects.
In relation to flood mitigation projects, the Government currently provides a development allocation of RM1 billion per year under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP). Taking into account the serious Northeast Monsoon 2021/2022 flood phenomenon that resulted in loss of life and property damage, the Cabinet has decided to increase and expedite flood mitigation projects with an additional expenditure of RM15 billion for the period 2023 to 2030.
The implementation of high -impact infrastructure projects in the Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak including the construction of integrated railways and highways as well as flood mitigation projects will catalyze economic development and contribute to the country’s competitiveness and the well -being of the people.
The decision to implement these projects reflects the Government’s concern to provide various opportunities for Malaysian families and strengthen the momentum of the country’s economic recovery.
