GEORGE TOWN, March 28 – The Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) has organized a special Basic Fire Safety Training for Penang Youth Volunteers in collaboration with the Penang Fire and Rescue Operations Department.
The program was held at the Jalan Perak Fire Station last Saturday and was attended by 25 Penang Youth Volunteers. The training was held in one day and included a series of programs such as basic knowledge of fire rescue, how to save oneself, how to use fire extinguishers, fire drill, recognizing various types of fire machinery and obstacle challenges in dark situations.
Participation in programs such as training is very important for youths as a fire safety measure and increase self -exposure on fire safety as well as reduce the risk of danger. The activities carried out during the program can also foster team spirit among the participants.
“Through this program, I can learn a variety of new knowledge and can experience how difficult it is to be a firefighter. The most memorable activity is the challenge of overcoming obstacles in the dark such as simulating situations of how firefighters rescue victims at fire locations in the dark ”, said Ooi, a participant in the program.
By organizing various trainings like this, PYDC is confident that this can also improve the life skills and leadership of the youth as well as foster team spirit among the Penang Youth Volunteers. The next training to be organized is the Basic Survival Skills Course on 9 April 2022 at the Penang Scout Center of Excellence in Teluk Ayer Tawar.
