GEORGE TOWN, April 27 – YOUTH from all walks of life can soon look forward to Youth Run, a 5km fun run slated to take place at Stadium Negeri Pulau Pinang in Batu Kawan on 15 May 2022. Endorsed by Olympic Council Malaysia, organized by TLM Event with the full support of Penang State EXCO for Youth and Sports and Penang State Sports Council.
The event will be held in conjunction with the National Youth Day and as part of Penang Community Olympic Carnival 2022. The fun run aims to encourage youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle while getting to know the state’s modern township of the future—Batu Kawan.
Penang State EXCO for Youth and Sports YB Soon Lip Chee says, “Realising the Penang2030 vision, which is to achieve a “family-focused, green and smart state”, begins from its people, especially the happy and healthy youth of Penang. As we all know, our youth are our future and our most important investment, and the Penang State Government works tirelessly to nurture them in various ways to position them competitively on the global map.
“As such, the state government is giving its support to Youth Run to encourage Penang’s youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle while providing them with a safe platform to exercise and create meaningful connections with each other. This is also the first program under the Penang Community Olympic Carnival 2022 which will be held from 15 May to 23 Jun 2022 to celebrate Olympic Day by reconnecting the community through sport.
“The year 2019 was the inaugural year for the Olympic Carnival Penang 2019. However, due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the much-awaited event was postponed to 2022. As such, the Olympic Carnival Penang returns as the Penang Community Olympic Carnival 2022 this year in May 2022 to promote a healthy and active lifestyle in the community while safeguarding the safety of the participants.
“Additionally, to further align itself to the Penang2030 vision that envisions both Penang Island and the Mainland as a state, Stadium Negeri Pulau Pinang in Batu Kawan is chosen as the event venue. This way, we hope to encourage our future leaders of tomorrow to get to know the township of the future today. I hope our youth can take the opportunity to discover the attractions and amenities in Batu Kawan after the run.”
Batu Kawan, Penang’s third satellite city, has seen rapid growth in recent years. Modern developments and infrastructure, such as the Stadium Negeri Pulau Pinang in Batu Kawan, IKEA and Design Village Outlet Mall, Penang Second Bridge, and more, have helped increase connectivity and re-vitalize the local economy in the area.
The event is open to youth aged 12-35 and is limited to 1,000 participants. Each participant is entitled to a t-shirt, finisher’s medal and e-certificate. The registration deadline is 7 May 2022.
