KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 – Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be celebrated tomorrow, the Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, announced this evening on behalf of the Rulers’ Conference. As Monday is a replacement public holiday for Labour Day today, the public holidays for Hari Raya will be Tuesday and Wednesday.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Cabinet members will host an open house at Laman Sari, Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajay from 10am to 4pm on May 8. Visitors are encouraged to wear face masks and keep a physical distance from each other, the prime minister’s office said last week.
This announcement came after the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia has ruled that May 2 (tomorrow) is Hari Raya Aidilfitri for Muslims in the country, the Saudi Gazette reported. Based on the Supreme Court report, today (Sunday) will be the last day for Muslims in Saudi Arabia to perform fasting.
The Supreme Court stated that following the report received from the court based on the testimony of those who are experts in the field, the crescent moon of Syawal is not visible. Therefore, it has been decided that Sunday, 30/9/1443H, corresponding to May 1 is the last day of the holy month of Ramadan.
Therefore, Monday, 1/10/1443H, corresponding to May 2 is the first day of Aidilfitri,” according to a statement issued by the Saudi Arabian news agency. Earlier, the crescent moon of Syawal could not be seen from the Tamir observatory or the Majmaah University observatory in Hautat Sudair on Saturday.
