GEORGE TOWN, May 6 – Penang Chief Minister, YAB Chow Kon Yeow who was present at the Penang Youth Committee (JBPP) Appointment and Letter Presentation Ceremony Session 2022/2023 said, “The State Government is committed to establishing JBPP in every KADUN to empower youth in Penang from in many ways, and at the same time it serves as a stimulus for youth participation in the local community to be more active and impactful. ”
The establishment of the Penang Youth Committee (JBPP) in each KADUN was approved by the Penang State Government during the Government Council Meeting on 2 March 2022 and PYDC was appointed as the secretariat to ensure the smooth running of this committee. The establishment of this committee is in line with the vision of Penang2030, under the C2 strategic initiative to ensure more active and influential youth participation in the local community.
The establishment of JBPP aims to encourage the involvement of youths in every corner of the state of Penang and at the same time train them to become an efficient and credible leader in the future. The committee also aims as a formal mechanism that serves as a catalyst to mobilize efforts and initiatives to develop youth in each KADUN.
Also present at the event, Penang Youth and Sports EXCO, YB Soon Lip Chee said, “This committee will open space for youths to hone their leadership talents, soft skills, and also youth involvement in the community. Through JBPP, more programs that will help and develop youth talent can be implemented and will be realized more comprehensively and effectively.
A total of 400 youths from 40 KADUNs of which 10 people from each KADUN have been appointed to form this committee which will be headed by the chairman. Meanwhile, other members include the secretary, treasurer and seven (7) ordinary committee members.
They have been entrusted by the State Government to carry out their responsibilities together with the state government in efforts to empower young people in Penang with the objective of forming youth as skilled, competitive, professional, high-spirited and influential human capital.
JBPP which consists of 10 members according to KADUN will be led by a Chairman and has been appointed for the period from 1 May 2022 to 31 December 2023. Careful selection of candidates in accordance with the conditions set by the Penang State Executive Council has gone through the nomination process by the respective KADUN and evaluated by the JBPP Appointment Committee before the decision is finalized.
Emphasized by Dr. Gwee Sai Ling, General Manager of PYDC, the establishment of JBPP can hone their leadership talents and also directly able to develop their potential more comprehensively and significantly.
