KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 – DAP MP Ong Kian Ming had decided not to offer himself as a candidate in the up coming 15th General Election and to take a break from the political front line. On 9 May 2018, DAP MP Ong Kian Ming was elected by the voters in the Bangi Parliamentary constituency as their Member of Parliament. This is a great honor for him, where he have been given the opportunity to serve the voters and residents of Bangi for the past 4 years, as well as the opportunity given to him to be a Member of Parliament for Serdang from 2013 to 2018.
His nine years of service as an MP has been a life -changing experience for him as he have had the opportunity to get to know and connect with individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and nationalities in different places around the country. He have also been involved in various projects and moved to places around the country that he probably would not have visited if not for his duties as an MP and Deputy Minister. He have also had the opportunity to work with and train hundreds of parliamentary trainees (“interns”) as part of his responsibilities.
I was also greatly helped by the support of hundreds of volunteers, party members, and supporters in carrying out my responsibilities. I am grateful and thankful to the voters who have chosen me and given me this responsibility to serve them in a variety of roles and capacities. I would also like to thank my senior, who was also the individual who brought me into the party and suggested that I be given the opportunity to serve as an elected representative said Ong Kian Ming.
Tony is the person responsible for bringing new ideas and visions to the party directly-through the Sabah and Sarawak Dream project, with his tenacity in exposing the 1MDB scandal, through the Dream Theater, etc.-and also indirectly-especially by recruiting members -new members who are then nominated starting from the 2008 GE until the 2018 GE. His service to the party and the country can definitely be felt in the last 14 years. I also want to thank Lim Guan Eng for his confidence in me and later nominating me as the DAP candidate for the Serdang parliamentary seat in 2013 and the Bangi parliamentary seat in 2018.
Ong Kian Ming said, I am also very grateful for the opportunity to serve as his special officer for 2 months during his tenure as Finance Minister and later when I was proposed to be one of the party’s candidates to become Deputy Minister, where I served for 20 months. I am also very honored for the opportunity given to observe closely the work ethic and dedication of Lim Kit Siang, whose energy in serving the party and the country as an 80 -year -old, is far stronger than those half his age, including myself.
In almost everything, Kit Siang has shown the whole country how a politician can put national interests before personal interests and for this, he deserves to be recognized as one of the most influential and respected politicians in Malaysian political history. I would also like to thank my parliamentary colleagues who expressed their appreciation for my service to the party, as well as those who tried to persuade me to change my decision not to contest in GE 15. They are, among them, Tony Pua, Liew Chin Tong , Yeo Bee Yin, Teo Nie Ching, Anthony Loke, Wong Shu Qi, Hannah Yeoh, Wong Hon Wai, M. Kulasegaran, Gobind Singh, Ngeh Koo Ham, Nga Kor Ming, RSN Rayer and Kelvin Yii. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve alongside you all in parliament.
I would also like to extend my appreciation to the special officers and staff who served with me during my time as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). You know who you are. I thank you all for your efforts to help me do my best during the 20 months I held the position. I am also grateful to all the staff at MITI and the MITI agencies with whom I have had the opportunity to work together on a number of projects, including the Industry 4.0 project, the foreign direct investment (‘FDI’) initiative, and various other programs with the association. -industry associations and chambers of commerce.
I am also grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with many dedicated local councilors and village heads in the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) during my 9 years as an elected representative. I wouldn’t have been able to do many of the things I do at the national, state and local levels if it weren’t for the support of all of you.
