BATU KAWAN, May 17 – Penang State Youth and Sports EXCO, YB Soon Lip Chee called on youths and new voters to fulfill their responsibilities in the upcoming General Election (GE). He said, as of December 31, 2022, there were 256,734 new voters in the state of Penang where 70,935 new voters comprised the age group of 18 to 20 years.
He who had attended the Youth Day program organized by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) this morning also stated that Sarawak is the state with the most new voters, which is 36.6%. The percentage was then followed by the state of Selangor (33.5%) and the state of Sabah (32.9%). The percentage of first -time voters for the State of Penang is 22.5%.
He argued that the voices and opinions of the youth should be heard as they are creative minded people, and they play an important role in determining the future direction of our country. Therefore, the Penang State Government through PYDC will launch videos for the UNDI18 initiative which aims to ensure the awareness and knowledge of UNDI18 among young people is increased, said YB Soon.
The first UNDI18 awareness video was launched in line with National Youth Day today. He also said, 4 new videos will also be launched in the near future. In fact, the state government through PYDC will also work with MPs and constituency assemblymen in the state of Penang to launch the UNDI18 campaign so that the youths in the state exercise their rights as voters.
YB Soon Lip Chee said, the Pakatan Harapan Penang State Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow has succeeded in fulfilling 90% of the promised manifesto. The state government will continue to strive to realize the Penang Vision2030: a Smart and Green State Based on the National Inspired Family.
PYDC General Manager, Dr. Gwee Sai Ling said, PYDC has also held exhibitions to promote youth activities such as Youth Volunteers, Youth Conference and others at the Penang State Stadium, Batu Kawan in conjunction with Youth Day today. In fact, talented young people also put on musical performances on the day.
