GEORGE TOWN, May 29 – Penang Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia chairman Oh Tong Keong suggested that the Penang Bridge be widened further with the addition of one lane on both sides of the bridge. One route diverts vehicles from the island to Mak Mandin in North Seberang Perai (SPU), another that connects Autocity, Juru to the island, to address congestion on the bridge.”
He said, traffic congestion on the bridge after the accident on the bridge was no longer a new thing, but the question here was the Penang state government refused to listen or accept the views of the community which resulted in frequent traffic congestion on the bridge.
He pointed out that many who had voiced their suggestions on the issue, including the Penang Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, also suggested that the Penang state government set up a cross-party committee consisting of experts from related fields to study the proposed widening of the Island Bridge. Pinang or build ramp ramps on both sides of the bridge to connect the island and the other side of Perai. But, sadly the state government did not take care and took appropriate follow -up action. He opined that now is the time to widen the Penang Bridge, the authorities should act now to study solution measures.
In his statement on Thursday, he said the work to widen the Penang Bridge had been carried out during the Penang state government led by the Gerakan Party. With the increasing amount of transport using the bridge, and serious congestion occurring when there are accidents on the bridge, the state government should take this issue seriously as this will impact the development of Penang’s tourism industry.
At the same time, he did not understand the attitude of the Penang state government which was indifferent to the problem of traffic congestion due to an accident on the bridge that has long haunted the people of Penang. He advised the Penang government not to just issue a statement when asked by the media when traffic congestion occurred on the bridge, they should take follow -up action to address this problem.
If the state government really prioritizes the interests of bridge users, the problem of congestion on the bridge should be resolved from the beginning. However, this problem still exists even though the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government of Penang has governed Penang for 14 years. This shows that the Penang PH government is a failed government.
